Sunshine Meditation

Soak in the Energy of the Sun 

Like a turtle warming itself in the sunshine on a lazy log, I love to soak in the warmth and glow of the sun – winter or summer! F


Something about the sunshine on these cooler days warms the soul and spreads a glow like a sly smile throughout the body, relaxing muscles and easing the tensions of the thoughts stirring through the mind, easing into a gently chatter like the birds and squirrels playing in the trees. A few moments basking in the beauty of the earth never fails to lift one’s spirits and put us back in touch with our wild side.

I highly recommend adding meditation to your daily routine – and it doesn’t have to be hard. There’s no specific length of time to get you to awareness or bring the body into balance. It’s not how you do it, it’s that you do it. Simply take a few moments for yourself to quiet the mind and calm the body. Beauty, sweet clean smells of autumn breezes and the quiet chatterings of nature can do wonders to life one’s spirits.

Today I want to share with you a simple Sunshine Meditation. Try this anytime you feel stressed, simply find a nice outdoors spot and take 5 or 10 minutes for yourself. The results will carry with you the rest of the day.

Without further ado, your new assignment (homework if you will!) is to sit in a patch of sunshine and try this exercise: This may be done sitting, standing, lying down, against a tree, whatever is comfortable in a nice patch of sunshine.

Clear your mind with a deep breath. Close your eyes and feel the sunshine, warm and bright immersing your body. Feel the bright sunshine warming your skin.

Imagine it soaking warmth and clearing bright energy deep into your bones and down into the depths of your body. Let it flow throughout your veins running around your body, pumping through your heart with your blood. Imagine this warm, bright light as divine, unconditional love.

Surround yourself in and around your body with the love of the universe. Feel it clear out all the dusty, murky, dirty parts of your soul and connect with your own inner light. Let the light shine from your inside out until you and the sunshine are one, flowing in unison.

Slowly open your eyes, maybe blinking back into vision of the physical world around you. Notice the breeze, the trees, the birds and animals around you. Gently feel back into your body and the world around you.

Smile. Be the sunshine!
